Although this is not new - the technology that we use for this is NEW and like everything else we do is the safest and best way to watch TV. We have suspended a 52" LCD 1080p blueray capable television just above the bore of the MRI scanner.
It is the ONLY MRI facility in the world to combine an OPEN BORE ESPREE - where your head is outside the scanner with a 52" television. So you can watch your favorite movie or show while having your scan. The other day we were scanning a patient's knee and he was very happy to watch CNN during his scan and catch up on the news.
When doing a lumbar MRI - we not only get beautiful motion free images, if you are taller than 5 feet 2 inches your head and eyes will be outside the bore and you can watch TV.
Supposedly (according to Siemens) 60% of the studies we do can be accomplished with your head outside the scanner. I think this has a lot to do with the mix of studies a site is doing. But when your head is outside - you can watch your favorite movie or television program.
But it is reassuring that if your head can be outside during your scan - the Siemens Espree lets the MOST PEOPLE have their scan with their head outside the scanner. It truly is the least claustrophobic scanner in the world. And at our facility you can watch TV as well.
I can guarantee that this is the ONLY facility in Delaware with a TV in the ceiling. Come and see it - you will be amazed. It is actually the ONLY facility in the world to have done this.
